Concert starts at 2pm. Chris would like us to be there for 1.40pm
Songs:

Singalong: I got rhythm, the bare necessities

Fields of gold
can you feel the love tonight

Singalong: zipadeedooda, supercalafragilistic

singing in the rain
A million dreams
Singalong: my Favourite things, Edelweiss

You raise me up
Pinball wizard
Sweet Caroline
The sing-a long words will be on screens at the back and front of the hall so both audience and choir can see them.

You can contact me on maureenpay@yahoo.co.uk if you have any more questions.
Many thanks to all who are coming.

Hi Lin can you please forward this email to members?
Thanks

Hi All. For those members attending the URC Bitterne concert,  this is the running order from Chris. There may be one or two more songs (familiar ones). If you still have the words for the ‘sing-a-long’ songs that were sung at the Ukraine concert can you bring them please? If not Chris has some copies and I will copy some more.
Lin has suggested wearing a white top with a colourful accessory (scarf for the ladies,  tie for the men?).

Joseph medley (maybe not the whole thing but I think we could do some of this)

Chattanooga choo-choo
what a wonderful world
Singalong: I got rhythm, the bare necessities
Fields of gold

Singalong: zipadeedooda, supercalafragilistic

CSSM at Uppingham School in Rutland

13th – 20th August 2022

Dear Chorister,

We’d love you to try our annual musical summer school, CSSM, in our 75th anniversary year. We offer non-residential and residential places, and our timetable enables you to sing with the chamber choir, take part in the Art of Singing masterclass, enjoy Evensong in Uppingham School Chapel, and perform the Mozart Requiem with soloists and full orchestra – and still leaves time for ad hoc music-making opportunities available between the organised sessions.

What we do:

We bring together around 200 instrumentalists and singers of all standards, from early grades to semi-professional, and each participant creates their own bespoke week of musical activities from our selection. If you would like just to come and sing in either of our evening choirs, let us know – we’d be delighted to work out something special to suit you.

Our internationally renowned tutors, varied courses and daily free concerts (including professional performances) create a vibrant atmosphere, and most CSSM students return year after year, creating a strong camaraderie which they delight in sharing with musicians exploring the course for the first time. You’ll make new friends while enhancing your singing in a stimulating, immersive musical environment.

Financial Assistance:

Our brochure also has details of bursary and discount schemes available to some young and new applicants which may interest you.

Join us!

Further information about just how much music-making we manage to squeeze into one week is available at www.cssm.org.uk and you’ll find application forms to fill in  too. If you have any queries, please call Gareth Huw Davies on 07973430852 or email us at admin@cssm.org.uk

Subject: Singing Workshop Invite

Hello,

I am getting in touch from OperaUpClose as we are holding a creative singing workshop at MAST, Southampton, on 15 June, and we would love for your singers to join us!

Come together with vocal facilitator and operatic soprano Lynsey Docherty in a creative singing workshop exploring how to use your voice to create character and drama, and help OperaUpClose create a national sound representing coastal communities.

We will learn and record a new chorus by composer Laura Bowler and poet Glyn Maxwell, for our contemporary re-imagining of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchmantouring the UK this Autumn. Participants will also receive a free ticket to an opening performance of The Flying Dutchman at Turner Sims on 7, 8 or 9 September.

Tickets for the workshop are free and you can book via for the MAST website: https://www.mayflowerstudios.org.uk/what-s-on/opera-up-close-tfd-22/

It would be fantastic if you could share the details with anyone you think might be interested in coming along.  If you can support us through a post on your social media channels, please let me know and I can send over an example post, if that would be helpful.

If you have any questions about the workshop, please let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a lovely day,

Jane

Happy Jubilee Week-End and Reminder about URC

Hi All
Hope you all have a lovely Bank Holiday 🇬🇧 Week End and I am sure all of you remember but there is no choir tonight.
And a while ago I sent out a “Dates for you Diary” List and would like to draw to your attention about the afternoon Concert at URC Bitterne on Thursday 23rd June at 2.00pm singing for about an hour. It is for the URC Senior Citizens Club. It will be songs from our current programme and if anyone would like to do solo’s duets that would be lovely.
You can email me to let me know by email if you are available or let Maureen know at choir next Thursday. We have been singing there for many years and it will be lovely to go back again.
Have a Great Week End
Lin

To Let You Know

Hi All
Some of you may have heard that I am giving up the chairmanship this AGM. I have been saying it for several years and I was going to give up in 2020 after the Golden Concert. I stayed on for the extra two years but now that the Golden Concert has happened it seems the right time for me to hand over to someone else. I am still going to carry on singing and will still be in the choir.
Chris my husband will also obviously be giving up the things that he does which means that we need someone to take over the webpage. He would be willing to give whoever takes it over detailed instructions on how it works, and be on hand if there were any teething problems.
A nomination form will be going out soon for Committee Members and Officers, so if you would like to join the Committee this is your ‘One Moment In Time’. 😃
Kind Regards
Lin

Dear Lin and Choir,

Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers, card, and music spoon delivered today! Baby Lucilla is growing well, sleeping, and eating perfectly. I am so pleased with the reports of how things went and so wished I could have been there. Life is getting busier and more complicated with four children! If anyone has any videos or recordings they could share of the concert, I would love to hear how you all sounded. Many thanks to Chris for taking over and his amazing talents and effort put into the Golden Concert! We are blessed to have such a great assistant MD and accompanist. Well done to all who made it happen! Can’t wait to be back 🙂

All the best,
Lillian

Dear Linda and New Music Makers

On behalf of Maureen and myself may I say thank you very much for the privilege of being part of the New Music Makers Golden Anniversary celebrations. Reminiscing and nostalgia are words that described the feelings a few of us had yesterday. The programme was an inclusive celebration with choir members sharing their stories of the past and present in amongst old and new songs (and then there was Tom!).  As Chris Allison remarked, music and singing together affects the way we feel about ourselves, especially with the crises that we are living through today. I always told my choirs that you must learn the music with your heads and sing it from your heart and the listener will respond and give back to you and so the full circle of ‘performance’ is complete.

Please convey my congratulation to the choir and to the superb musicians who made the evening so enjoyable (not forgetting your husband for his important contribution).

Keep singing, and I raise my glass to the next 50 years.

Best wishes

Stuart
