WEEK +10. Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81691367380?pwd=RUg4SFNPbnRxbUVwQ1gwb1ZKUWZhQT09 Meeting ID: 816 9136 7380 Passcode: Gold

Hi All

Well it’s still raining and there is more high winds and  rain forecast for the next few days.  Joy of joy. Hope all of you lovely people who told me they would not be on zoom because you are away on you holidays are still having a wonderful time despite the weather.

As far as I know there are no birthdays this week, but who knows I have been wrong before, more than once!!

I don’t have any more news about Brians funeral on Monday but if the weather is fine  enough I will be outside the crematorium on Monday 24th at 11.30 am to be there when the hurst arrives to show my respects to this lovely man and it would be nice to see anyone who would like to join me.

Well I am not sure if anyone has heard all of the hype that is going on in social media about the change of rules to singing inside.  Back in September the rules were that you could meet up indoors using all of the Covid rules 2 meters apart, hand sanitisation etc in groups of 6 with the groups not mingling with others.  This very quickly turned into full lockdown and very few choirs actually managed any rehearsals under those guidelines.   Our main problem was that we couldn’t use the Methodist Church as it was not open and we could not book a suitable venue.  The Methodist Church is not  opening until after the 21st June so this option was not available for us unfortunately.

Some choirs did go ahead with all of the risk assessment in place with venues secure only to find out on the 18th May that they are only allowing non -professional singers to go back to rehearse inside with more than 6 people.  They are stating that it is dangerous with the air particles whilst singing.  I guess if you are at a football match with no mask and no social distancing then that is ok to sing your heart out as loud as you can to spur on your football team.

We are hoping that it will all be cleared up by the time that we can return to inside singing but in the meantime are looking into some outside singing Thursday 27th to see if it is going to be possible for the New Music Makers can you let me know if you think this is something that would interest you
If you can’t make it we will hopefully but it on Zoom for you to join in.  We will be starting 6.30 for 7.00 start for approximately an hour.  It will be in Botley you will be required to bring your own chairs and covid rulings will be in place.  Full details will follow early next week.  Of course this is weather permitted.

We still would like to know your opinions on returning to choir so would still ask if you could fill out the survey that was sent out.

So REHEARSALS this week is ABBA.  I have attached the pdf of the music and also the lyrics. Don’t forget if you want to get in the mood dress up in your 70’s gear.  I got married in the 70’s not sure that my wedding dress (yes I still have it in the loft) will fit anymore.(of course it won’t!).

This Weeks Zoom Rehearsal. 20th May 2021

Hi All
Lillian is away on holiday this week and Chris has suggested we try something different for this Thursday. We are going to have a “feel good fun” rehearsal we will work on a medley of Abba songs, (PDF of the music attached) We will spend some time looking at these then try singing them with a choir backing track. I know some of you have done the Mama Mia Medley but we have not done it for several years and we do not have the copy in our files at home and this is a different version.
Feel free to come dressed in seventies/disco gear – go on you know you want to.
Thanks Chris it sounds like fun.

WEEK + 9 https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81691367380?pwd=RUg4SFNPbnRxbUVwQ1gwb1ZKUWZhQT09 Meeting ID: 816 9136 7380 Passcode: Gold

Hi All

Hope everyone is fit and well and not been blown away, frozen or drowned by the weather.  Which silly person wished for more rain 🌧⛈

I hope you all received the survey letter and it would be really helpful if you could fill it in to give us some idea where to go next.  We are working on a risk assessment with help from Making Music so that everything will be in place when we have some dates and your opinions. If you don’t feel comfortable filling the survey out it would still be very useful to know how you feel about moving forward.  The survey is very easy even I managed it
without having to ask for any help.👏

I am at the moment unable to  update you anymore on Brian Garners funeral service on Monday 24th May at 11.30am.   My understanding is that although more people can attend a funeral it does still have to be socially distanced and is dependent on the size of the venue.  Hopefully I will have more information next Wednesday. Update on this is that Wessex Vale are still only allowing 30 people to the funeral so it will depend on how many family members are going to attend the funeral.

We have a birthday. It is Roger Estcourt’s birthday on Saturday 15th May.  Roger is a Bass and has been in the choir for over twenty years I think?  So he must be just a bit older than 21.  Hope you have a Wonderful Day Roger 🎂🍷

Some of our basses having a singsong  I wonder what they are singing it was in 2019 a warm up before the Concert so we will let Phil off for not wearing his droopy bow tie.  You will be glad to know that I have now made them nice and perky and should not droop anymore. Have also added a bit of sparkle. Get ready to sparkle men  ⑅✨✨✨⑅

THIS WEEKS REHEARSAL

The new format seems to be working and the last few weeks we have worked straight through but last week we didn’t manage a break out room as we ran out of time.    Eric has offered to take over as host at the end and if anyone who would like a bit of a chat at the end in a breakout room he will keep the session going for another 15mins or so to enable a bit of socialising.  The links are for reference for you to sing along to and may be used for the rehearsal if necessary.

RETURN TO CHOIR SURVEY – PLEASE REPLY BY MONDAY 24TH MAY

Hi All

To help us prepare for resuming choir, Making Music have devised a survey to find out how choirs are feeling about going back to singing in a group.

The survey is optional but it will really help to have ‘data’ from as many people as possible so the committee can make the best decision for the way forward and have appropriate measures in place. The committee have already completed the form and it is very straight forward.

If you would rather not fill in the survey but would like to let me know your personal opinions please feel free to email me directly.

All responses are needed by Monday May 24th.

Click on this link to complete the survey:

https://www.makingmusic.org.uk/return-rehearsal-survey

The Name of our Choir is

THE NEW MUSIC MAKERS

Below are some notes on the survey from Making Music, but please let us know if there are any questions:

  • The survey is anonymous, but there is an option for people to enter their name if they wish.
  • Only the first two questions are required – the rest are optional.
  • Different options appear depending on how you answer the question: When the ease of restrictions allows your group to meet again, will you be comfortable returning to rehearsals? Make sure you try all three responses to find out which one best describes how you feel.
  • The data will be stored in the Making Music website so we will have access to it.
  • Making Music will not keep or use any personal data submitted.

Thanks

Lin

Hi All
You have to be careful what you ask for.  Last week I was complaining about how little it had it rained this week it rained so hard that somehow it disrupted our water supply and we were left with no water for most of the day!!  At least the water butts are full and we had water to water the greenhouse and the fish are happy.

There are no birthdays as far as I know this week.

I have some sad news this week, Brian Garner passed away yesterday  Brian has been a fighter, he left the choir in 2017 after a long illness and ill health and has had lots of set backs since then including a broken neck, and broken hip but sadly his fight has come to an end.

Brian had been in the choir nearly since the beginning and became a life member and enjoyed coming to our Concerts and meeting up with choir members since his retirement.   He told Roy that he had joined in about 1979/80.  He was a very loyal and active member, he had been chairman through some difficult times.  He loved joining in the Panto’s and performing with the choir. His wife Muriel was also in the choir in the early years and they both participated in the German exchanges returning many times in their caravan to meet up with their twinning partners in Germany.

The first two photographs are a very early pictures of the choir.
The third photograph is Brian along with the New Music Makers proudly singing at Winchester Cathedral in July 2010 for the memorial service for the two firefighters Alan Bannon and James Shears who sadly lost their lives tackling a fire in a tower black in Shirley, Southampton

The last picture is of us at a rehearsal in December 2017 for a presentation of a gift  from the New Music Makers given to him  by our founder member Tom Rodaway.

Brian’s funeral will be at Wessex Vale Crematorium at 11.30am Monday 24th May 2021.  At the moment we will not know what the restrictions will be set in place until after the 17th May should anyone like to attend.

Apologies for the two emails, I thought I would send it so that I could edit on my laptop from my iPad and had forgotten I had added your names when I put the photographs from Mailshot.  But it did give me a chance to update with information that Roy has sent about the funeral.

See you tomorrow.
