New Music Makers

Hi All

Missing you already.  It will be a strange Thursday without seeing you all but we have an experiment?
Hope you are all safe and well.
Firstly there is a Whatsapp group and I have been able to invite everyone who is already on Whatsapp  and I had their mobile number.  If you would like to join and are already on Whatsapp then send me your mobile number and I will add you.
If you want to join Whatsapp go to the link https://whatsapp.com/dl/ and join and let me know also adding your mobile number.
Looking forward to hearing from.
Also some more excitement Chris Allison has been working on an app which means that we can all talk/sing together. Being a complete Luddite  not sure how this is going to work but am looking forward to 7.30pm this evening, see Chris’s email below:-

Hi Lin
I was just experimenting with an app called zoom for Sing4fun which allows a group conference video call.  I’ve set up a 30 minute meeting (any longer than that and I’d have to pay!) for New Music Makers tomorrow evening at 7:30. –  (this is tonight now) We don’t have to sing (although can try it if we want!) but it will allow whoever wants to to have a group video call.
For anyone who hasn’t used zoom before they ought to click the link 5-10 mins before so they can download zoom if using a tablet or phone.

Hope you are all keeping ok.

NMM Rehearsals

Hi All
It is with regret that I have to tell you that we will not be rehearsing for the foreseeable future due to the recent announcements from the Government about Social Gatherings. And even if the situation is better by the time our Concerts are due we will be under rehearsed and it would not be fair to put on a substandard performance.
It is a great shame and I am sure we will all miss our Thursday evenings, but we all have to try and stay safe and well.
Look after yourselves and keep in touch.
Regards
Lin

Corona virus

Hi All

Something to think about:-

You will all be aware of the developing situation regarding the Corona virus. Within our choir, we have members who fit the definition of vulnerable groups. Our rehearsals take place in an environment where we are close to others and singing projects our breathing outwards and we take deep breaths in – both of which increase the risk of virus transfer.

We certainly should not overreact, but  we should all be mindful of the steps we can take to limit the risk of transferring the virus within and outside the choir.

The advice given by Health England is that we should all increase the frequency of hand washing and we should avoid getting within 3 feet of anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

We would ask that if you cough or sneeze that you do so into a handkerchief, or – if you can’t get your hankie out in time – into the crook of your arm. Then avoid hand contact until you have washed your hands. If you feel you are developing a cough or cold, we ask that you stay away from rehearsals until you are feeling better/not sneezing.

By taking these simple common sense steps we limit the risk of transferring both Corona virus and other coughs and colds – so we will all hopefully stay healthier – which can’t be a bad thing.

Local Vocals Fwd: List of music for March 2nd at Netley Court

Subject: List of music for March 2nd at Netley Court

All music for this list is now on the website under the Training Tab, folder Local Vocals.  Music is there as just accompaniment and also with the words.  There is a pdf folder in which Jerry has put my original copy of the music so it can be seen as well as heard!

Most of the new songs are fairly straight forward, but it is worth having a listen.

Saturday Night was Gold

Hi All

Thank you everyone who has written to say how much they enjoyed Saturday night it was a great evening I think the Botley Park did us proud Steve has written to them to thank them for their part in the evening.  They have been very helpful and accommodating in all of the arrangements and even the chaps who came in to clear up after we all had finished were happy and jolly so I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Thanks go to the Committee.

Particularly Steve our newest Committee Member who we threw in at the deep end and he managed the bookings, money etc. with his trusty spread sheet, and everybody got what they ordered with no mishaps well done.  Thank you to Rebecca and her daughter who did an amazing job with the balloons especially the arch, Gilly took it home in the back of her car with Jane and Chris to use for her Granddaughters birthday party, that must have been a fun trip home.  So they were recycled and we bought eco friendly latex ones.

Thank you to everyone who brought in secret raffle prizes and the sellers and folders, we made enough money to pay for the balloons and also to give a tip to the waiters.

Are those your tickets you are folding up Matthew?  Or maybe the look on Sarahs face it was you?

The beautiful raffle sellers.

Thanks to Eric our DJ, great music choices especially without them we wouldn’t have had moments like this

Killer moves Roy.
The Food was great we particularly liked the tarts.image1.jpeg
Our final song of the night was ‘Gold’ with everyone up on the dance floor dancing and singing –  we had better make sure we get the words right by June?!?!

Here is the email from Tom our founder member which I think does sum up what New Music Makers is all about and he should know he has been in it for 50 years thanks Tom.

“Last night’s celebration was nothing less than fantastic, one of the most enjoyable celebrations the New Music Makers has ever had. I personally felt so proud and humbled by the fact that I was amongst such genuine friends. The story of the choir has always revolved around love and friendship and the way we always welcome everyone without question. To me it has always been a big extended family. May this feeling last for many more years to come.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to say a few words and I’m sorry if through nerves I didn’t say the things I would have liked to say. But I did my best!

So thank you once again to everyone involved for the vision and the jolly hard work that went into making the evening such an outstanding success.

Best wishes
Tom”
