Hedge End Village Christmas Lights Ceremony

image3

Here we are doing our bit at the Switching on of the Lights in Hedge End Village.

It looked like the whole village had turned out for the occasion.  It was a jolly time with a good Christmas atmosphere with lots of interesting stalls and things to do.

The Mayor turned the lights on and it looked really pretty and festive.  We were then off to rehearsal for our Concert next week on the 10th December in Hedge End Village Hall.

Royal Air Force Association

We kicked off Christmas with the Choir singing at Hamble Social Club for the Royal Air Force Association Christmas Party.

As it was a bit early, we started with some non Christmas Tunes, before we hit them with the ladies singing “Christmas Shopping Blues”,  a lively song telling how we have “So Many presents to buy, I just don’t know what to do.  I have the Christmas, Christmas Shopping, the Shopping Blues”.

But we did end up telling them that it’s “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”.

We had solos from Janet Moody and Roy Hogben and lots in between.

All in all a jolly Christmas Party with lots of nice cake.

Christmas has started for the New Music Makers.

Sarisbury Green United Reform Church – 19th October 2016

Thanks to a recent refurbishment the venue was lovely and bright – sunshine yellow. Maybe this helped the members of the New Music Makers who performed to raise funds for the Shelter Box charity. They sang through the programme with enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment to a small, but appreciative audience, who joined in wholeheartedly with the Beatles singalong, including waving their arms to “Hey Jude”
David Farnell was musical director for the evening and we were accompanied by Chris Allison who also treated the audience to a beautiful piano solo – the theme from the film “The Piano”. Chris Kellaway was M C keeping the audience (as well as the choir) informed on what was happening next.
David Farnell and Sandie Austin duetted and solos were performed by Janet Moody, Pat Jenkins and Roy Hogben.
The thoroughly enjoyable evening raised £200 for this less well-known but very worthwhile charity.

Yet another wedding where we just helped to make the married couple’s day a bit more special. A very nice, warm, happy occasion.

We can offer suggestions for music to be sung before the service, during the signing of the register and to accompany the newly married couple as they leave the ceremony.

New Music Makers Raise The Roof!

Saturday 6th August saw (and heard)the New Music Makers raise the roof with
their soaring harmonies at a concert to make money to assist with the
refurbishment of the Underhill Centre at St John’s Church, Hedge End.

An exciting repertoire of pieces ranging from the shows, gospel, choral and
pop entertained the audience on a beautiful summer’s evening.

Soprano Patricia Jenkins’s solos were stunning and she was joined for duets
with Lin Kellaway, singing ‘The Wings Of Sleep’ from ‘The Dancing Years’ and
Barbara Cobley with ‘Evening Prayer’ from ‘Hansel and Gretel’.

The pieces perfectly matched their voices to give goosebumps. Roy Hogben’s
hugely entertaining rendition of ‘I’m Reviewing The Situation’ from ‘Oliver’ was
a crowd pleaser as was the emotional beauty he gave to ‘Stars’ from ‘Les
Miserables’.

You can catch the New Music Makers again at their ever popular family
Christmas Concert on Saturday 10th December, 2.30pm and 7.30pm at Hedge End
Village Hall. Tickets available from 01489 781836.It is rumoured that a special
person with a white beard and red coat will be at the matinee! See you there!

2016 Netley Abbey Concert

Friday 13th May was certainly a lucky day for us, as we had the pleasure of singing at one of our favourite venues – St Edwards in Netley.  With an amazing acoustic, a wonderfully warm welcome and a church filled to the roof with a brilliant audience, what more could you want? Cakes? Well we got those too – in platefuls!

Our audience really appreciated the wide ranging musical genres on offer, as well as being treated to Roy’s solo (If I Were A Rich Man) and David and Sandie’s duet (I Remember It Well).  Both Michael (our Musical Director) and David ( Deputy Musical Director), ensured each piece of music oozed musicality, which made for a sensationally sonorous evening.  The Beatles sing along proved a great hit (pardon the pun) and everyone joined in singing and waved their arms in unison to the ever popular ‘Hey Jude’.  All this and the concert raised over £500 for the church.

We look forward to returning to our friends at St Edwards next year, for another fantastic concert.
