Good news! The new music for this season is still arriving….  I will be able to issue ‘Viva La Vida’ to those who haven’t received it yet before rehearsal on Thursday. Please make sure you see him to get your copy. In broad terms that’s anyone with a library number of 25 or above. It will be in the music pack for those who are still to collect some or all of their new music from me – those with music library numbers 1, 12, 23, 26, 39, 43.

Eunice is looking for volunteers to sing with the Local Vocals next Wednesday at Netley Court, in the afternoon.

Well, that’s all for now.

See you on Thursday.

Fwd: Summer music – updating your music holdings

Good morning to you all,

I have another email from Tony Jardine explaining to you the music we hope to be singing this coming season.

Following our Committee meeting on Monday, we have agreed that our rehearsals for this coming season will be from 7.30 to 9.45pm, with a 15 minute break, which will allow those members who travel along the M27 time to get home before the roadworks commence each night.

The Committee also want to start a recruitment drive for members, especially men, and we will be holding a separate meeting for this, but we would welcome any ideas that you may have.  So if you think of something, please let one of the Committee know your thoughts.

We are cancelling the EGM that we called for Thursday evening following a further discussion with the Committee about Associate Members and President and after talking with Tom. Instead of these positions, we will be introducing “Friends of the Choir” where we will hold an email list of those persons who wish to be kept informed as to what we are doing and what to help at our concerts, or want to join in with our social events.

One item that has constantly been discussed is the amount of chatter that goes on during the rehearsals.  We have a number of persons within our choir who have hearing impairments, who find it very hard to hear what is being said when there is a lot a chatter going on around them, so we are asking you to keep your chatter to the breaks, and we will ask Lillian and Chris to speak a bit more clearly.  If any member has a problem with their hearing can you let me know so that when we come to voicing etc, we can make sure that you are seated in the correct position within the choir so that you can hear properly. Also, it is very impolite to the person who is talking to hear the chattering that is going on.

We have the following dates for your diaries:-

Saturday, 18th March – Annual Dinner – venue to be decided
Saturday, 3rd June – Summer Concerts at KCC – times 2.30pm and 7.00pm
Saturday, 15th July – Summer Spectacular at Hedge End Village Hall – 2.30pm
Thursday, 20th July – AGM

We have also been asked to sing for the Halo Club again sometime in the spring, but we are still awaiting confirmation of the date for this. We will also be singing at Bitterne URC, but I will get the date for this to you later.

For your information, Hedge End Methodist Church will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary in 2024, and we have agreed to help in the celebrations through next year.

The Local Vocals are starting to receive enquiries again, and we have a couple of dates already arranged, so if you are interested in joining us, please let Eunice know.

Well, that’s all for now, and I hope to see you on tomorrow evening.  For those who are not able to make it, I enclose the link for the Zoom for the rehearsals.

Bye for now.

Eric

Message from Tony:-

Hello again,
The forthcoming summer programme (both for the our concert and the spectacular) will be a mixture of music you already hold and we’ve sung in recent seasons, music already held by NMM in our store and some totally new pieces.  I would strongly suggest bringing everything we’ll be singing for this season to every rehearsal in case there is a last minute change in plan. A few of you will not yet hold a full music set. I’ll sort out arrangements with each of you on Thursday.
From the music you hold already:
  • A Clare Benediction
  • All I Ask of You
  • It’s a Grand Night for Singing
  • On A Clear Day
  • One
  • Sounds of Simon and Garfunkel – we’ll be assessing if this can be a men only medley but could everyone else please bring it along for now anyway
  • The Music of the Night
  • Why We Sing
From our store:  I’ll be issuing the following to you this week. You will then hold that going forward with the rest of your music.
·        A Whole New World
·        Every Breath You Take
·        Mamma Mia! medley
·        Summertime
·        The Bare Necessities
·        The Holy City
Also from our store: We don’t have enough copies to go round. I have extra copies on order.  I’m hoping to hand this one out next week if the order arrives in time!
  • There’s No Business Like Show Business
New music: All pieces are on order or being printed centrally. I’m hoping to give them out next week, again subject to orders arriving on time.
·        Shenandoah – we have decided to use an arrangement created by Lilian with her kind permission. This will be printed centrally rather than asking everyone to print their own copy.
·        Somewhere Only We Know
·        Rocketman medley
·        Viva la Vida
·        When You Believe
·        Wherever You Are – sopranos and altos only
When all pieces have been issued, I’ll provide you with a revised list of what you’ll then be holding.
Best wishes
Tony

Collecting in NMM Christmas Music

Here is a message from Tony Jardine regarding the Christmas Music that you have.

Happy New Year to you all

As usual with our Christmas music I will be collecting it all back this week for safe storage until next September.  As a reminder here is the list of what you should be returning to me:

Carol of the Bells
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Grown-Up Christmas List
Jingle Bell Rock with Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
Last Christmas
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Sing We Now Of Christmas
The Little Drummer Boy
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
This Christmas
Tiding of Comfort and Joy

Follow The Star – although this is a personal print-at-home piece, I am happy to store your copy with the rest of your music until we sing it again.  Quite a few of you decided to do this last year but it’s your own call. It just saves you mislaying it at home.

White Winter Hymnal was issued to a smaller group of 15.  I have one copy back already so could the remaining 14 of you please include that with the rest of your returning music.

Finally, a number of you borrowed a copy of “100 Carols for Choirs”. I’ve already received some back but if you still have a copy then please also include that with your returning music.

Many thanks

Tony

Christmas Greetings

Good morning,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
It seems like we have had a hectic year since coming out of the pandemic, and we were finally able to celebrate our choir’s 50th Anniversary with our Summer Concerts at KCC, the Summer Spectacular at Hedge End, and cumulating in our Christmas Concerts, again at Hedge End. We have worked hard this last term in learning all the new music that we had for the Christmas Concerts, but the results speak for themselves, especially from the positive comments that we have heard from our audiences, so well done to everyone.
We now have a new year to look forward to, and we will start back on the 12th January, where we will hold an EGM at the start of the rehearsal to adopt the changes to our constitution to include the position of President and Associate Members.
So enjoy your holidays over this festive period and I will see you in the New Year.
Regards
Eric

Fwd: NMM Choir at Halo lunch Club

Here is another email that has been sent to the choir from Sally Parker, from the Halo club.

Hi Eric,
Thank you so much to you and the choir for coming and entertaining us so well last Tuesday.
It was a great afternoon and a fitting end to our festivities leading up to Christmas for our older folk.
Do hope you’ll be able to come back and see us again in the New Year!
Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a God blessed New Year.
Sally

Fwd: Merry Christmas!

Good morning,

Here is a copy of a message that Lillian has sent to the choir.
Regards
Eric

Dear Choir,
I have been so blown away by your performances last Saturday and this past Saturday at RVCP! You make me very proud. It is an honour and pleasure being your musical director and I look forward to a nice break, and then starting again in January with a new and challenging programme!
Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year 🎄🎉🥂

Fareham Towns Womans Guild

Good afternoon to you all,

Last night was the final time that almost all of the choir managed to get together for a concert, and didn’t we do well.  The comments that we heard from the audience were “don’t know we were going to sing that many carols, but I could have listen to the choir all night long”, and ” I wonder if we could book them for a Christmas concert next year”.  We sounded very good, especially in the chapel, and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Our last private concert will be for the Fareham Towns Womens Guild, on Wednesday, at the St John’s the Evangelist Church Hall, 1A St Michael’s Grove, Fareham  PO14 1DN.  There is a small car park between the church and the hall, or if the are no spaces, you will have to park somewhere on the street close by.  We are singing from 2.15pm so you will need to arrive from 1.45 to 2.00pm so that we can get you seated ready.  At the moment, there are only 12 of us singing, so if you feel that you would like to join us, please let me know.

The programme will be as follows:-

Sing We Now of Christmas
Little Drummer Boy
In the bleak Mid-winter – Solo by Mike Ward
Once in Royal David’ City
Carol of the Bells
Follow the Star
Santa Claus is Coming to Town – Solo by Lin Kellaway
Away in the Manger
Tidings of Comfort and Joy
Still, Still, Still
Angels Among Us – Solo by Roy Hogben
Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer
O Come all Ye Faithful
Do you hear what I Hear
Jingle Bell Rock
Hark! the Herald Angels Sing
The Most Wonderful time of the Year – with hats

A few of us are also singing that evening, around the streets of Boorley Park, at 6.30pm, so if you would like to join us, let me know and I will send you the details.

Well, that’s all for now.

Regards

Eric
