Singing from Memory

Hi All

If you have been in the choir for a while you will know that the New Music Makers have always tried to sing the Summer Concert without music which on the whole does,  we think, make a better Performance with the choir members watching the Musical Director and concentrating on their singing and you don’t get the problems with holding folders – dropping folders – finding the right music etc etc.

We do realise that this year is a completely different situation: 

  • we have not sung together for a full Concert for over two years
  • we have not had the same intense rehearsal
  • we have lost several key choir members
  • we have some very new wonderful new members
  • we will be under different guidance and pianist
  • and the Queen stole our date so we are having the Concert two weeks early!!

So after liaising with Chris and Lillian we are working on a compromise that we do some of the pieces without music but all blocked together and we sing some with music and mix them around with a few solo pieces between to give us time to put down/pick up music.  

We still have a lot of work to do on the performance of all our songs and time is going very quickly so we all need to knuckle down and practise at home to get our notes so that we go prepared to rehearsals and attend as many that we can, even if it is only on Zoom. (Don’t forget if you have missed a rehearsal you can catch up on most the recordings on the website) I think you will all agree we are getting there and each week there is a lot of improvement.  Keep the good work up.

We will try and work this into the rehearsal plan to help you with learning the words. For those that have not sung without music before, it is easier with people around you singing the and Chris will give you as much help during the performance.

Good Morning,

One Community are delighted to be pulling together an event to celebrate the Queens Jubilee and Community.

The Eastleigh Platinum Jubilee Community Showcase will be on Saturday June 4th 10am – 4pm

The last part of the day 3pm – 4pm will be a proms feel with singing and flag waving.

We are looking for choirs/local bands to sing a few times throughout the day would you be interested?

We are also looking for a choir master to take the lead on pulling the choirs together?

Please come back to me with any ideas or questions. We really can’t pull this together without support like yours.

Eunice has asked me to send this on to you all.
I don’t know if this would be of interest to any of the choir members, but… The Salvation Army at Hedge End are open Friday 4th March from 9am until 4pmfor anyone who would like to donate to Ukraine. 
They are looking for various things, Thermal socks etc., blankets, sleeping bags, food items, such as pasta, rice, tinned goods, Hygiene products, Feminine Hygiene, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, toys  etc., in other words anything you would need under the circumstances..

We will be part of  they hope 100 – 150 strong choir.  We will be singing:

Just a reminder to let me know if things for attending tonight  are different from last week.  So if you were not at rehearsal last week and are attending  this week then let me know.  If you were there last week and are not going this week then let me know.  It just saves putting so many chairs out and making sure that people are sat with the right voices.  
If you told me last week or in fact any week,  and you didn’t see me write it down then I have already forgotten!!!
For those on Zoom can I just remind you to mute yourselves as soon as the rehearsal starts please, you can unmute in the break but do remember to mute again and feel free to unmute at the end for a chat with your fellow zoomers.
