Hi All
You have to be careful what you ask for.  Last week I was complaining about how little it had it rained this week it rained so hard that somehow it disrupted our water supply and we were left with no water for most of the day!!  At least the water butts are full and we had water to water the greenhouse and the fish are happy.

There are no birthdays as far as I know this week.

I have some sad news this week, Brian Garner passed away yesterday  Brian has been a fighter, he left the choir in 2017 after a long illness and ill health and has had lots of set backs since then including a broken neck, and broken hip but sadly his fight has come to an end.

Brian had been in the choir nearly since the beginning and became a life member and enjoyed coming to our Concerts and meeting up with choir members since his retirement.   He told Roy that he had joined in about 1979/80.  He was a very loyal and active member, he had been chairman through some difficult times.  He loved joining in the Panto’s and performing with the choir. His wife Muriel was also in the choir in the early years and they both participated in the German exchanges returning many times in their caravan to meet up with their twinning partners in Germany.

The first two photographs are a very early pictures of the choir.
The third photograph is Brian along with the New Music Makers proudly singing at Winchester Cathedral in July 2010 for the memorial service for the two firefighters Alan Bannon and James Shears who sadly lost their lives tackling a fire in a tower black in Shirley, Southampton

The last picture is of us at a rehearsal in December 2017 for a presentation of a gift  from the New Music Makers given to him  by our founder member Tom Rodaway.

Brian’s funeral will be at Wessex Vale Crematorium at 11.30am Monday 24th May 2021.  At the moment we will not know what the restrictions will be set in place until after the 17th May should anyone like to attend.

Apologies for the two emails, I thought I would send it so that I could edit on my laptop from my iPad and had forgotten I had added your names when I put the photographs from Mailshot.  But it did give me a chance to update with information that Roy has sent about the funeral.

See you tomorrow.

Week +7 – https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81691367380?pwd=RUg4SFNPbnRxbUVwQ1gwb1ZKUWZhQT09

Hi Good People

How are we all doing on week +7?  Whats happened to the rain I was really hoping that we would get a great big downpour and it would water the garden fill up the water butts (we emptied them and cleaned them out) (I say we, of course it was Chris who did that)  and it would fill up the fish pond.  I think I counted six drops.💧💧💧💧💧💧. Had a few more drops since I started the email but not enough to fill a fish bowl let alone my pond..

We have one birthday. It is next Tuesday.  Maureen Pay one of our Altos and also one of our newest Committee Members.  Maureen joined the choir in June 2017.  The first photograph is of Maureen singing outside Brambridge Garden Centre and the other is of the “fun games night” we had in May 2019.

Unfortunately this is another thing that the choir has not been able to have any social events.  Hopefully something we can do someday in the not too distant future,  Let us know what you would like to have first – skittles, quiz/beetle drive, quiz night, fun games night, donkey derby, bingo?  Or perhaps you have some more ideas?

Singing for Charity outside Brambridge Garden Centre.

I wonder who won the game of Beetle Drive at the games night? 🪲 Have a lovely Birthday Maureen.

Still no positive information about the rules for returning to choir, we are hoping that there may be at least some guidance before the  17th May on the next bit of the roadmap. We are trying to keep up to date and will let you know as soon as we know anything,

THIS WEEKS REHEARSAL

Hello all,

Tomorrow, I’d like to keep the same format as last time. This time, Lillian will start with the ladies, and Chris with the men and we will swap in the middle like last time. I think for the sake of recording, if we could put the ladies in the breakout room, that would be great!

Lillian will be rehearsing:
Everything’s Coming Up Roses – https://youtu.be/Rx4KSQnS9cQ
Memories
You’ll Never Walk Alone – https://youtu.be/zuDvSS8yLqk
Can-Can – https://youtu.be/aa7uRilM6JI

Chris will be rehearsing:
Chattanooga Choo Choo – https://youtu.be/dXKoY__lOt0
When the Saints – https://youtu.be/OX5FK0qRVto
All Things Bright and Beautiful – https://youtu.be/qY9G00WWUVI
Sing Sing Sing – https://youtu.be/OA6oE0RfTlg

Hi Everyone

Spring has Sprung 🌷🐑 🌼🌸, must get down to some spring cleaning, 🧹🧽 🧼  🧹maybe not!!

We have one birthday this week, in fact we have two as it is Richard Close tomorrow on the 22nd although I did tell you about it last week.  We did sing to you last week but you disappeared before the end, we were slightly upset that you didn’t like our singing 🎶 but we hope that Edie appreciated it.

It is Roy Hogbens birthday on Sunday 25th,  This was Roy at the Old Time Musical and one of Roy doing what he does best singing at one of our Concerts.  You will find Roy performing on the YouTube videos that  are now on the website under “Events” and then into “Martin’s Legacy”. The videos are from 1981 – 2019.  There are also copies of the programs and other information about the Concerts.

See if you can find out what he was singing on the videos,  Have a great day Roy and why don’t you buy yourself some bread pudding to celebrate.🎂

This time last year we had very exciting news with Lillian having her baby, Augustine Horatius Sediles.  Born on the 28th April, we thought that Lillian would be bringing him to rehearsals and we would see him growing up but of course that did not happen.  So here he is on the day he was born and all grown up and walking.  And a beautiful photograph of the whole family.  Wow what a difference a year makes. Thank you Lillian for sharing the photographs of your lovely family.

Hope you all have a lovely Birthday Party for Augustine 🎉🥳🎉

THIS WEEKS REHEARSALS

Hello all,

This week, I’d like to spent most of rehearsal in sectionals, but what we’ll do is switch in the middle between Lillian and Chris.

Lillian will start with the Men. Chris will start with the Women.

Lillian will be rehearsing (30 mins with men, then 30 mins with women)
One Voice
West Side Story
Can you Feel the Love Tonight
Everything’s Coming Up Roses

Chris will be rehearsing (30 mins with women, then 30 mins with men)
Memories
The Lord is my Shepherd
Simon and Garfunkel
Chattanooga Choo Choo

Depending on how it feels, we’ll take a 7-minute breakout chat in between sectionals, or we’ll socialise at the end!

Hope that makes sense 🙂

See you tomorrow,
Lillian

Something different and nice to try something new.  If you haven’t been for a while why don’t you come and join us and you can sing Happy Birthday to Roy.

Hi All

Hope you are all well and by now most of you have had the opportunity for the jab and have not had too many side effects.

We have a Birthday this week it is Richard Close on 22nd April.  Richard Joined the choir in May 2017 as a Baritone.  I am lead to believe that it is a signifiant birthday this year. I hope you have a great day and you don’t look a day over 50.

Have a Wonderful Day Richard – at least this year you can go out!

Well this time last year was a  busy time with lots of news.  The first breaking news was the birth of Becci Coppens beautiful daughter Edie on the 14th April 2020. Looking back she was to be named Edith Charlotte ‘Lily” Coppen, the name Lily was under consideration as Matt was unsure if he wanted to saddle the children with two middle names as he had been.  He won by a toss of the coin and Ollie only has one, I haven’t heard if Becci won with Edie.
This is the  photograph I sent out of Edie when she was born and the other one on how much she has grown. Beccy has sent some more photographs of Edie’s first year which I will send separately for you to see in case it is too many for one email.

V
What a difference a year makes she is gorgeous- apparently the beers are a present from Grampie, I think Edie may be a bit young for them?  Maybe they were for Ollie? 🍻

Of course we also had the birth of Lillians baby, more about that next week.

We also had sad news in that Martin Small had passed away on the 19th April 2020.  As most of you knew Martin had been associated with the choir  for many years and worked front of house, making scenery, helping with quizzes and keeping archives of the choir and videoing Concerts.  He left all of his archives to the choir and my Chris has now finished digitising them and they will soon be available for you to see on the Website and we will have them now as History for the choir thanks to Martin.
I only found out recently that he had also bequeathed £1000 to the choir and have heard from the solicitors that we shall soon be receiving it in our bank account,  What a lovely thing for him to do and we will use the money wisely in his memory.
Thank You Martin from the Choir.

MARTIN SMALL 5/11/40 – 19/4/20

COMMITTEE MEETING

We had our Committee Meeting and unfortunately we are no further forward in knowing if we can put on our Concert in October and if we can have an audience or indeed when we can go back to rehearsing.     There is nothing in any of the government guidelines and Making Music are none the wiser and are not giving any useful information out.  But we have to be hopeful that things will improve and we will rehearse the songs we programme on Zoom and at home in the hope that it will happen and it is something to look forward too.  You know the one Always Look On The Bright Side of Life, last sung in 2015 – one definitely to be revised.

I am sad to say that David Jupp has retired from the choir. Although he hadn’t been in the choir for long he did enjoy it and had a lovely Bass voice that I was privileged to hear at his Audition.  It is a shame but he has not been well and finds it impossible to sing now.  Such a shame we send him all our best I am sure.

The other disappointing news was that Lock’nstore have put there weekly charge up. Something we could have done without at the moment.

****MESSAGE FROM OUR TREASURER****

GIFT AID

Dear All

Now that we have reached the end of the tax year, I am in a position to make a claim to HMRC for the choir’s Gift Aid.  If anyone who normally does Gift Aid has found that their circumstances have changed in the last year, whereby perhaps they have not had to pay tax  and therefore will not qualify to have their subs “Gift-Aided”, could they please let me know by email.

Kind Regards

Sharon

Please can you email Sharon directly.  Thanks Sharon.

On a good note we did have an enquiry before lockdown from a couple who had moved into the area and they were going to come along to a rehearsal, and then of course we all know what happened.  I got in touch with them to invite them to our zoom meetings, they were not keen on joining in with that but are still interested and would like me to keep in touch to let the know when things are better and would like to come along to a rehearsal.

THIS WEEKS REHEARSAL
