HIM and ME – The Tracy & Hepburn story

25 – 31 January 2021

“I have loved and been in love. There is a big difference.” – Katharine Hepburn

A new play in two acts by Charly Armstrong & Dan Scott

He was elusive. She was unconventional. Together they formed an on-screen partnership that captivated movie-goers for more than twenty five years. But what audiences didn’t know is that all of it was real.

One of Hollywood’s best kept open-secrets, Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn were an unlikely pairing. Though their relationship was fraught with difficulties, they remained devoted to one another all their lives.

Hepburn was fiercely independent, Tracy was married. But, then again, in the golden age of Hollywood: romance was never like the movies.

LIVE STREAM

11th – 17th January 2021

Up Pompeii
High jinks and slap and tickle in the ancient Roman town of Pompeii

A stage version of the classic television series originally starring the inimitable Frankie Howerd as the much put-upon slave Lurcio. As Lurcio attempts to deliver his prologue and begin the proceedings, he’s quickly caught up in the myriad of sexual liaisons in his master’s house. Whilst growing chaos ensues, an increasing rumbling is heard in the distance – what could that possibly be? A riot from start to finish.

Hi Everyone

We have two birthdays this week.  Jane Courtenay has a birthday on Thursday 7th January.  Jane is a Soprano and joined the choir when Mariane became MD which I believe was in 2005.  The photograph is at her daughters wedding which we had the privilege of singing at.  I don’t know why but Jane didn’t sing with us on that occasion.

Hope you have a nice day tomorrow and if you join us we will definitely sing 🎶 Happy Birthday To You 🎶.  Obviously the highlight of everyones birthday!

Sarah Turl, also a Soprano has a birthday on Sunday 10th January.  Sarah is one of our Committee Members and apart from many other things does an amazing job of publicity for NMM.  The photograph was taken last February with her husband Simon at our Golden Dinner.

Hope your lovely family make sure you have a wonderful Day.

Our two lovely ladies singing at Asda with a little help from their friends, sadly not taken this Christmas.

BACK TO REHEARSING

Unfortunately Lillian will be unable to join us this week, she is currently in the hospital with her youngest son Augustine as he had to have an operation yesterday.  The operation went smoothly and he is recovering in hospital for the next few days.  She asked me to send a ‘Hello’ to everyone.  I am sure we all wish him a speedy recovery and send love to the family.

Chris is going to take the rehearsal  and we will be singing some of the songs from the Concert that never was, but will be one day, and also some from our music that we all hold from the library for a bit of variety.
Plan for Thursday evening will be:
Warm ups
Joseph Medley: Song of the King and Close Every Door to Me
Pick a Bale of Cotton

2 lots of Break Out Rooms for a catch up as we haven’t seen each other for sooo long.

PLEASE NOTE

We may  be having a new alto lady joining us this week to see if she likes us.  Her name is Vanessa Wilkinson. So if you get her in your break out room be nice to her. 😆.
They are bringing back the 8pm applause in our 3rd lockdown for carers, teachers, homeschooling parents and ALL who are pushing us through this difficult time and hope it can lift the spirit of us all.

If anyone would like to join in we could have a break just before 8pm to give you chance to pop outside for a couple of minutes.  Don’t forget to put on a coat!

Happy Happy Happy Birthdays

Hi All
We have two birthdays before next Thursday I bet you both thought I had forgotten you.
It is Terry Harland’s Birthday on the 3rd January. Terry is a Tenor and joined the choir in May 2017. I spent a long time looking for a photograph of Terry but he always seemed to be hiding behind someone.
{CAPTION}

I hope you have a great day Terry.
And on the 5th January it is Eric Gerrey’s Birthday. Eric is a Bass and joined with his lovely wife just before Terry in April 2017. The picture is of Eric doing his DJ in his DJ at the Golden Dinner last year.

Keep those tunes coming Eric have a great day.

Week 42 HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE

Hi All
{CAPTION}

Happy New Years Eve Wishing Everyone Good Health and Happiness in 2021
Despite not being able to meet together for 42 weeks, thankfully we have been able to still keep in touch and have fun together when we were introduced to Zoom. Unsure of how things were going we did quizzes and games and we quickly found that singing together although fun was as somebody put it “horrendous”.
We had a “Summer Concert Revisited” in June on what would have been our Concert Day, made up of songs from past concerts of some of the songs we would have been singing at our Golden Concert.
We got back to rehearsing some of our Concert Songs and thanks to Lillian and Chris we made our first virtual youtube recording of ‘All I Ask Of You’ in August which was then followed by “You Raise Me Up’ in October.
For something completely different we watched one of New Music Makers pantomimes from 2007 ‘Pirates of Christmas Island” in early December. We watched it together on Zoom some dressed as pirates with others in the christmas spirit, literally! It was sent out to past members and cast members.
On a roll from the virtual songs, Lillian put forward the idea of a Virtual Christmas Concert which we premiered whilst again watching on Zoom on the 17th December. This has now had 598 views. Lillian then put out a carol each day to the run up of Christmas which between the five songs there have been well over 1000 hits. Thank you Lillian for all of your hard work putting all of this together. We are such a lucky choir having Lillian and Chris on our team.
Who knows what next year will bring but I would like to thank all of the choir members for your continued support and hopefully it will not be too long before we can join together and sing – together. {CAPTION}

Week 41

Hi All

image1.jpeg

Well it is normally, this year not quite so much!  I hope you can all enjoy it as much as you can, different from other years but we have to get on with it the best we can.
I have a little treat for you our very own Chris Allison Singing “Grown Up Christmas List”.  Quite poignant after the year we have all had.  He recorded it as a learning aid for Sing4Fun his other choir and I thought he would not mind me sharing it with you all.
                                      https://youtu.be/Z9ym9ZmAkDA
We do not have any birthdays during the rest of 2020 but if you know someone I hope that they can have a good birthday.
I hope you all managed to watch  ‘New Music Makers – Virtual Christmas Concert.’
The last time I looked there had been 523 Views.  Wow isn’t that amazing???
Just in case you were not one of the 523 here is the Link again
                            https://youtu.be/rRLi_YMa0kI.
Many thanks for Lillian and Chris for preparing the backing tracks to all of the songs the piano accompaniment and conducting videos.  And also to Lillian for putting the whole Concert together and lets not forget those choir members that contributed videos towards the Concert.
I sent the link out to past members and friends of the choir and have had lots of lovely replies back. Amongst them was Mariane Temperley wanting  to send best wishes to everyone.  Mary Gunn said it was lovely to see us all looking so well.  Frank and Sally Parker wished us Every Blessing For Christmas and New Year.  I met Adrienne Bath in Lidl and she wanted to be remembered to everyone.
Lets hope we will be able to see them all at our Live Concerts in the not too distant future.
I know lots of people donated to Macmillan which was brilliant, unfortunately we are unable to know the exact figure as it all gets lumped together but they did say that they had had lots of donations since our video went live.  If we ever do this again we will look into a different way of donating.
Lillian has been posting a ‘ Christmas Countdown’ releasing one song on our facebook page up until Christmas. These include some of our choir members who were not in the original virtual concert, so something new for you to see. They are very professional and sound amazing.  Lillian has sent me some of the links for non facebookers to watch.

Thanks again Lillian for doing these they are brilliant.

Here is my song for this Christmas especially the last verse

WEEK 40. Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81691367380?pwd=RUg4SFNPbnRxbUVwQ1gwb1ZKUWZhQT09 Meeting ID: 816 9136 7380 Passcode: Gold

Hi All

We have no birthdays this week so no embarrassing pictures to show you.

I hope some of you managed to watch the PIRATES OF CHRISTMAS ISLAND.  We had good fun on ZOOM.  Some were dressed as pirates, many had on Christmas attire and fortunately no one was in their dressing gown, not that I could see anyway.  We had a lovely chat afterwards reminiscing about the good old days.  To date we have had 117 hits on the panto which is amazing.  We have had another request for another one to be aired sometime in January, we will just have to work out which one to do.

Hopefully you have all received the emails about the VIRTUAL CHRISTMAS CONCERT.  Many thanks to Lillian for working so hard on this. It grew somewhat from the original plan with extra solos and the children singing Away In A Manger.  Can’t wait to see it tomorrow.  Thanks again to Lillian and Chris for all of their hard work putting this all together with the backing tracks and rehearsals on zoom and finally Lillian fitting it all together as if  by magic.

As you will have seen we are hoping to raise money for Mountbatten so please send out to as many people as you can.  Of course it is not compulsory but it would be nice to be able to help this worthy charity in this difficult year.
Link to their website  don’t forget to say it is for New Music Maker Christmas Concert.            https://www.mountbatten-hampshire.org.uk/

We normally write on a group choir card and donate to our Charity instead of sending cards. Something else we can’t do!  I will not be sending any real cards but will donate extra to Mountbatten. Here is my ecard to you all.

So this weeks Zoom we will be doing as we did last week starting the Zoom Call at 7.30 and then muting ourselves to watch the Concert at 7.45pm  You should be able to add comments as it is going on and then we will have a chat after it has finished.

This is just for choir members. Please do not invite anyone else to join our NMM Zoom Call.

A recap of how to do zoom and youtube together:-
1.  Go to the Premiere page on YouTube https://youtu.be/rRLi_YMa0kI
2.You can mark it to watch later as a favourite so that you can get back to it quicker.
3. On Thursday evening.  If you have two devices Log into Zoom as Normal on one device.  On the device that you want to watch the Panto click or type this link.  https://youtu.be/rRLi_YMa0kI(If you have YouTube on your TV you could watch it on that) If you look up the title ‘Virtual Christmas Concert: New Music Makers you should find it.
4.If you only have one device watch the panto on YouTube and if you want to then join us with zoom after the concert has finished.
5. At any time whilst it is playing you can write comments on YouTube.
6.  One thing we did learn from last Thursday was to ‘reload’ the page just prior to the start (or at least as the ‘Premiere’ intro music is being played) as otherwise the page may get frozen and you can only hear the music but not see the video.
