Chairman’s Newsletter

Hi there,

Here is my email for NMM for this week.
Hi all,
Well done for getting through our entire programme for the Mayor’s concert in our last rehearsal!  It was good to see where all of our songs are currently at and where we need to keep working.  A lot is now about repetition and familiarity so we can look up more and communicate more expression and character in our songs.  As always try to find time going through the practise tracks that Jerry has done for us to help with this.
This week a group are singing on Thursday afternoon at Bitterne URC.  We will do the following songs:
1. Let the River Run
2. The Beatles Medley
3. The Rose
4. Dance a Cachucha
5. The Sound of Music Medley
6. FIx You
7. Something Inside So Strong
8. All Things Bright and Beautiful
9. Why We Sing
10. The Bare Necessities.
In our rehearsal on Thursday evening we will run through our songs for the Mayor’s concert again, spending a bit more time on the songs in bold –
Bohemian Rhapsody
The Beatles Abbey Road Medley
Believer
Dance a Cachucha
The Rose
Go the Distance
Shine
____
Let’s Dance Medley
Let the River Run
Something Inside So Strong
The Bare Necessities
Fix You
Why We Sing
Celebration

If there is time left at the end we will run through – Circle of Life, Can Can, The Sound of Music Medley.
Have a good week and I look forward to seeing you again on Thursday.
Chris
For the Bitterne URC, we are singing at 2.00pm, so you need to arrive in plenty of time to sort out where we are seating, and remember you need to pay for parking in the car parks in Bitterne. As per the website, the uniform is Pink tops for the ladies and White Shirts of dark Pink Bowties for the men, with both with Black Trousers and shoes.
Next Tuesday, Local Vocals are at Sunnycroft, West End, 2.15 for 2.30.
Well, that’s all for now.
Bye for now.

Hi there,

Firstly, here is a message from Chris regarding this week’s rehearsal:-

Dance a Cachucha
The Rose
Go the Distance
Shine
____
Let’s Dance Medley
Let the River Run
Something Inside So Strong
The Bare Necessities
Fix You
Why We Sing

If there is time at the end we will rehearse: All Things Bright and Beautiful, Circle of Life, Can Can
Have a good week and see you  on Thursday!
Chris
Secondly, for those who want details of the mayor’s Charity concert, I enclose a copy of their poster for the event so that you can order tickets.
Don’t forget that we will be having a Music Committee meeting on the 12th May to decide to songs we will be singing  at Christmas, so if you already haven’t let either your rep or myself know if you have any suggestions.  Your reps are Hilary for Sops, Eunice for Altos, Percy for Tenors and myself for Basses.
Well, that’s all for now so I will see you at rehearsal on Thursday, and we will be back in the hall this week, so if it is cold, wrap up warm.
Bye for now.
Eric

Thursday’s Rehearsal

HI there,
Just to let you know that the door to the hall has been blocked off due to the repairs to floor on the inside, so you will have to use the front door to the church to get into the rehearsal on Thursday.
Regards
Eric

At the moment there is no Local Vocals next week as Hawthorns have not confirmed whether they want us or not, so you can enjoy a week off.
Don’t forget that if you have not signed up for the three concerts in April and May, the sign-up sheets will be on the table as you enter the Church Hall.
Well, that’s all for now, so enjoy the rest of this Easter Weekend, and I will see you on Thursday.
Bye for now.

Hi there,
Martyn Thomas will be coming along tomorrow night to take some photographs of us rehearsing for our website, at approximately 8.30.
If you feel like dressing up, you are quite welcome to.
A more formal photograph of the whole choir will be taken at our Summer Concert at KCC, when we are all in our costumes.

Hi there,
Here is a message from Chris regarding this week’s rehearsal:-
Hello All
Great work in our last rehearsal!  We covered a lot of ground and it was good to have more time for revision of songs now we have done so much of the learning.  There is still a bit of new music to be learned so here is the plan for this week
FIRST HALF
Learn: The Seal Lullaby
Revise: Go the Distance and The Rose
SECOND HALF
Let’s Dance (The Songs of Irving Berlin)
Something Inside So Strong
Fix You
The Sound of Music Medley
Can Can
Why We Sing
Have a good week and see you on Thursday.
Chris
As you come in the door on Thursday, there will be three lists there so that you can put your name down for the following three concerts:-
23rd April – Bitterne URC
9th May – Mayor of Eastleigh Charity Concert
16th May – Singing at John Lewis
All the information for these events are on the website, except for what we will be wearing to the Mayor’s Charity concert, but we will know on Thursday about this.
Well, that’s all for now, so I will see you at Local Vocals this afternoon at Eastleigh, or on Thursday at rehearsal.
Bye for now.

Hi there,
Here is a message from Chris regarding next Thursday’s rehearsal:-
Hello everyone,
In our rehearsal this Thursday we will be looking at the following –
First half
Go The Distance
The Rose
Second Half  – We will focus on revision and look at
Fix You – (Rhythms from b53-68) then sing through
The Bare Necessities (Remember this is a song we will need to learn off by heart so we can do the clapping!)
Celebration (This is also a song we will need to learn off by heart for the same reason!)
Dance a Cachucha
Believer
Something Inside so Strong
Thanks for all the work you are putting in learning parts.  For where we are in the year it’s coming on well and we will continue to build on that this week.  See you Thursday!
Chris
We will be at Snowdrop Place, Hedge End for Local Vocals this week, so I will either see you there, or at rehearsal next Thursday.
Bye fir now.

Hi there,
Here is a message from Chris regarding our rehearsal this week:-

Hi all
In this week’s rehearsal I just want to look at one new song –
Dance a Cachucha – Please try to have a look and listen to it prior to Thursday, especially at the words as saying these at speed is probably harder than learning our notes!
We will spend the rest of the evening revising the following –
Something Inside So Strong (looking at the 3 choruses (b 16-25; b40-49; b60-74) and then singing through the whole song
Why We Sing (practising the intro b1-9; Bass tenor and alto in b10-25 and adding the descant to the final chorus – last time ladies whose birthday is in May, June or July sang this!)
Can Can
Let the River Run
Let’s Dance Medley
Beatles Abbey Road Medley
Fix You
Believer
The Bare Necessities

Have a good week and see you on Thursday.
Chris
If you haven’t already done so, those of you who are going to the dinner in the 21st, can you make sure that your selections are given to Lin or Rebecca asap.
Local Vocals are at Sunnybank, Fair Oak this week, so I will either see you there, or at rehearsal on Thursday.
Bye for now.
Eric
